Being graduation college as a first-year student can make you feel a little bit nervous. Every new freshman wants to start college like a pro. But the fact is, you won’t find out whether some of the college myths you’ve heard about are true until you experience them for yourself. Well, this post is here to make it a little bit easier on you. Here are some tips so that you get a head start in finding out what you should and shouldn’t do as a newbie on campus.
DON’T: Procrastinate on College Work
DO: Stay Organized
It is incredibly easy to enjoy other aspects of college life and soon academics start taking a backseat on your priorities list. But, when the time for the midterm and/or finals comes, you realize you’ve made a huge mistake. Try your best to stay on top of your reading and assignments. You’ll thank yourself later.
DON’T: Just be a Bookworm
DO: Enhance your Skills
Enhancing skills alongside your graduation elevates your resume while conveying to your future employers that you are focused and committed towards self-enhancement, along with having exceptional time-management skills. You can also enhance your critical thinking skills, which will help you in viewing situations and problems from a different managerial perspective.
DON’T: Just stick to One Course
DO: Upgrade your qualification along with graduation
Earning an extra qualification is an important step as it can open up opportunities in life. The benefits of having an extra qualification include career opportunities like better paying and higher-skilled jobs. Some of the Indian Courses you can pursue alongside graduation are CA, CS, CMA. DON’T: Party too hard
DO: Party responsibly
It is important to maintain the balance between studies and parties and to remember that partying is just one activity of life. Ignoring party for studies would certainly make your life dull and sedentary but, by side-lining partying for studies with an appropriate balance can get you roses for your career.
DON’T: Only be a Pro in Studies
DO: Be the best Athlete/Dancer/Singer
A fresher’s social life is as important as their academic life, for their development. Research has shown that students who participate in co-curricular activities have a marked improvement in the grades. This can be attributed to skills they learn such as better time management, better organizational skills, developing endurance with determination and a boost to self-esteem. Skills learned in college activities such as debate can be applied in the classroom too, as you learn how to express yourself better.
DON’T: Feel Incompetent
DO: Feel Confident (Not Overconfident)
Sometimes it’s overwhelming to be surrounded by other students who are smart and talented that it’s easy to feel incompetent. Don’t worry! You were taken by the university because you have the potential to be something great. Confidence becomes a negative asset when you start bragging or you start showing it off. Hence never do that.
